Gangtok, the capital of Sikkim, is located on a ridge-top, with stunning views of the surrounding countryside and nearby peaks. A downtown pedestrian mall and nearby shops and bazaars provide amenities – coffee and internet shops are favorites – in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. Getting around is easy — it’s usually either up or down! — either on foot or by share taxis or private taxi.
Hotel Pomra is the base for our program; it is a family-run hotel, owned by Pema Namgyal and his family, and located in a quiet neighborhood on the upper edge of Gangtok. It is close to the city center, and also to peaceful walks along the ridge. There is a 2 km jogging / walking loop along a quiet loop-road (Secretariat Road).
The hotel highlights recently renovated rooms, 24-hr hot water, restaurant, lounge, satellite TV, and free Wi-Fi. Food is served family style for our group. The Namgyals have hosted numerous programs in the past, and they are attentive to the needs of foreigners. (See the Hotel Pomra website.)
