Forbes Magazine just published an article on how a gap year experience can support and enhance a student’s college and university program. Not only can gap year experiences help your chances of college admission (if you’ve not yet been accepted), but they can prepare a student by giving them the opportunity to mature, thus eliminating the risks of failure or disengagement that are so common among college freshmen.
A gap year abroad allows a student to explore what is truly important for her, and to develop her passions, thus establishing (or fine-tuning) her choices of college courses and majors. Several thousand dollars spent on a gap year experience can enhance the value of 10s of thousands of dollars spent on college.
Students who are not motivated in college can waste hours, weeks, months, and years of their college experience. Investing in a gap year can provide the perspective that is missing when one transitions directly from high school to college or university life, or blindly navigates through college without sufficient motivation.
